What does it mean to be "Salt of the Web"

At Salt of the Web, we're quite selective in our choice of websites to host and to list in our directory. One of our objectives is to "flavor the internet" with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We want to take seriously the calling to be "Salt of the Web," and to help other people be "Salt of the Web" as well. There are three types of websites that we will list or host at Salt of the Web:

Churches and Christian ministries. We will accept Churches and Christian ministries which can affirm one of the historic creeds of Christianity -- the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed. This doesn't mean that you have to be a Creedal Church, but that your statement of faith is consistent with one of these summaries of the Christian faith.

Christian Businesses. We also accept Christian businesses which exist to serve the Christian community--companies that offer resources, Christian literature, and services geared toward churches and ministries. For example, we would list a Christian radio station, a company which refurbishes steeples, or a company that prints tracts and evangelistic material.

Christian-owned Businesses. The last group of sites that we accept are Christian-owned businesses. Even though these businesses might not primarily serve churches and ministries, we will consider listing them, provided the following two criteria are met:

  • The owner(s) are able to affirm one of the two historic creeds of Christianity -- the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed.
  • The website somehow exemplifies what it means to be "Salt of the Web." This is a pretty broad criteria...but basically, someone visiting your business website should be able to identify that you are Christian-owned and operated according to Christian principles. For instance, you might state that you donate a portion of all proceeds to a Christian ministry. Or you feature some sort of Christian content, flavoring the lives of those who visit your site.
  • If you are not entirely sure if you fit these criteria, please send an email to: info@saltoftheweb.net.
